What is a good notebook computer?
I want to buy a new notebook (laptop) computer and was wondering if anybody has some suggestions on what to get or not to get.
I live in Sydney, Australia and am a uni student. I do like to play around with different editing programs as well. I want something that is preferably light weight to take to uni with me and has a large memory capacity. It would also be preferable if it wasn’t slow.
For the time being, I am not too fussed on a price range - I just want something that is good, reliable and will hopefully last a while.
(My last computer was a Compaq and it was terrible!!!)
Any information will be greatly appreciated, and I will award the best answer… thanks in advance =) …

HP (Pavillion), Asus or Dell (XPS) are quite reliable brands if you want XP. Or Macs are also good choices.
Depending on your programs, I would choose a laptop with an adequate graphics card. Anything above nVidia GeForce Go 6100 I think is fine for things like photoshop.
Nowadays, even laptops come with a lot of hard drive space, but i wouldnt worry about that, you could always purchase an external one, or use your iPod.
Choose at least a duo core or even better, a quad core.
RAM - No less than 1GB. More GB is better (obviously)
For Internet, download Google Chrome for Speed, Firefox for Fun.
In terms of price…it’s your decision on how much to spend on it. More money = better features.
The rest of the stuff nowadays comes pretty much standard (DVD player, burner etc.)

Hi Danielle.
Im a bit of a PC junkie so i hope you can take my advice…
It really all depends on what type of budget you are on…
But… if you would like a nice laptop that is probably around the mid-range price area i would definitely try Dell.
Just go onto the Dell site and have a look. its best to buy online because you get discounts and free delivery….
If you are looking for top of the range laptop that is good for most things i would personally go Dell XPS M1330
Hope this helps.
macs are the best lappies you can get plus they offer decent edu prices for students and teachers. here is the link:

input your details and the cheaper prices will appear. also, i’d imagine they’d have good deals on older machines since they new ones just hit the market. have a hunt around next byte and mac 1 for more details.
hope it helps!
Either a macbook or a sony vaio.
