Replacing a notebook computer in a wireless network?
I have recently replaced my Dell notebook computer. The one I am replacing is also a fairly new Dell that is being exchanged per the warranty. I have a wireless network setup as follows: high-speed cable modem to Linksys WRT54G router to Dell Desktop. It is a secure network that is working perfectly. Will I need to change any settings in the router setup, or can it pickup the new computer’s address? I have run the wireless utility on the new notebook, but it is not connecting to the internet. Any help would be great!

as stated above, make sure you have entered your wireless key correctly into the new laptop, however, you need to make sure that MAC filtering has not been enabled on the router, if it has you will need to manually add the MAC address of the new laptop to the router or it will deny access to the new laptop until you do, just as if you had not entered the correct encryption key for the router.
You should not need to change your router’s settings. It is the new laptop that needs to be configured. What type of security are you using? If you are using WEP then you need to enter the WEP key on the new laptop. If you are using WPA-PSK then you need to enter the passphrase on the new laptop. Hopefully you remember how security is configured on your router.
Hope that helps!
