Is it normal for a glossy notebook computer screen to look blotchy when the computer is off?
I own a VAIO SZ340 and I notice that when the computer is off the screen appears to have purple blotches. They are not very obvious and it just happens I noticed this at the right angle. The screen does not normally display any blotching when it is on. I did notice that in the low screen light setting a little blotching is apparent. This is my first glossy screen so I am just wondering if this is normal. Thanks.

It should not look blotchy. Try gently cleaning it with a soft clean cloth that has not been used with chemicals or cleaning agents. Dampen it with water only and carefully wipe the screen. Then use another soft clean dry cloth and gently wipe the screen dry, do not apply too much pressure.
