How can I access the fan and heat sink to my Gateway Notebook computer?
My wife owns a Gateway 400VTX Notebook computer. The fan has recently stopped working and the BIOS displays a "fan error" at startup. Being only familiar with desktop system hardware, I am unsure of how to correctly disassemble the proper components to gain access to it. Do I go at it from the top (through the keyboard) or the bottom? A site would be helpful, but if you’re experienced, I’ll take your word for it. Thanks!

I worked in 2 big laptop industries, but not GATEWAY brand, laptops are all differents, some have to go through the keyboard cover down to heatsink, some at the bottom, if u are inexperinced i would advice that you bring ur pc in a shop, bcos screws are all different and to be honest, its not an easy job even u have the electric torque driver to use, lifting parts are very complicated,..pls be very careful if you will try it urself. the best that u can do is try to analyze the back where the heatsink is located, try to open it also, upon removing the cover, if the heatsink is possible to take out , do it, then u will also know if the fan can, they are always together , but if not, then u have to go through the keyboard cover down to it.
